When you have a handful of DVD favorites you already own, why buy a UMD movie for your PSP? This guide will save you time and money because instead of buying a UMD movie you already own on DVD, you can rip the DVD to your PSP!
Obviously, a 32 Megabyte PSP memory stick will not be enough to store a full DVD onto your PSP. If you just want to watch 5-10 minute videos, a 32 MB memory stick should do the trick. Let me explain it to you this way: I have a 512 MB memory stick for my PSP that i bought for about $30 on sale. I could barely fit a 2 hour movie on it, but just the movie, no "extras" or "bloopers". So if i were you, i would purchase a 1 GB or 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo so that way you could store a full movie, plus some music, photos, game demos, and more. If you are interested in buying a larger memory stick for your PSP, just go to yuor local electronics store and they should have a large variety of sizes. But remember, the bigger memory stick you buy, the more money you are saving in the long run.
I recommended that you don’t run other programs while decrypting your DVDs unless you have over 1GB of RAM.
Follow these directions to rip a DVD movie to your PSP:
1. To convert the DVD format you a format that the PSP can read, you will need to download programs. Although these programs may or may not be completely legal, depending on how you read copyright and fair use law, they will not harm your computer in any way.
2. Your first step is to "rip" the DVD to your computer. Download and installDVD Decrypter, then slip your DVD into the player.
Note: Your computer must be able to read DVD discs. To see if yours can or not, pop in a DVD in the computer and if your computer recognizes it and a box comes up asking you to play the DVD. If your computer makes no indication that thet DVD is in the drive, then chances are you have no DVD drive installed in your computer and this how-to will not work at all for you. Double check with the manufacturer of your computer to see if your drive can read DVD discs if you are unsure.
3. Once the DVD Decrypter is installed, launch the program and go down towards left and middle area where there is a tiny folder icon. Choose a destination to put the file you're going to create, somewhere where you will easily be able to find it later such as the Desktop.
Note: A standard DVD movie can be 4-8 Gigabytes of information! Make sure you have enough hard drive space on your computer before you continue. To see your available hard drive space, open up "My Computer" and right-click on your local disk drive (usually the C:// drive) icon. A convenient pie chart should appear showing you how much free space you have on the drive.
4. After you have choose a destination, click on the "Mode" tab at the top. Scroll down and select "IFO". Now click the "Tools" tab, select "IFO" Mode. Now go to Tools-> Settings and on the "File Mode" tab and make sure that if there's a File Splitting option that it is set to "None." (depends on the version). Under ther Input window click the movie.
5. Now click on the the Stream Processing tab, enable Stream Processing, and select your video. In the bottom left, click on the silver disc icon with the word "DVD" underneath it. DVD Decrypter will now decrypt the movie for you. The process of making an exact copy of the disc to the hard drive should take approx. 30-40min. depending on the length of the movie and extra features.
6. When DVD Decrypter is finished creating the file, you can close the program and eject the disc. You must now change the format of the video file so that the PSP can read it. You will either have to download PSP Video 9 or iPSP. If you're using Windows, then download and install PSP Video 9 To download PSP Video 9 for free click the below button:.
If you are using a Mac you could try using a program called iPSP.
7. Run the program you just installed on your computer (either PSP Video 9 or iPSP) and these applications pretty much take care of everything for you!
For PSP Video 9:
Click the Convert Tab and select "New Job" or "Transcode New Video". Then choose your movie/video file and click ok. Then under "Title" on the right side, enter the name you want your movie to show as on your PSP (For important info about naming your movie files see the below notes). Then click Start and let PSP Video do its thing. After it is done transcoding (it does take a while),connect your PSP to your computer using either a memory card reader or a USB 2.0 cable. Make sure that both your computer and your PSP recognize that the PSP is connected to the computer. For your PSP to recognize your computer, Select
Once the PSP is connected to your computer, click the "Copy" tab on the left hand side and then just click the movie file, and Copy to PSP.
For iPSP: Unfortunately, I don't know too much about Macs and iPSP but a
ccording to the iPSP description , it pretty much does everything for you.Notes:
- If you want to manually put the PSP video on your PSP without using PSP Video 9 or iPSP, unlike music and picture files, you can't put your video files in the "PSP" folder. Create a folder called "MP_ROOT" and inside that folder create another folder named "100MNV01." That is the folder to which you need to copy your converted video files.
- Also, you need to be careful how your video files have been named. Programs like iPSP should properly name your video files automatically, but naming your MP4 files "My_Rocking_DVD.MP4" just won't work. These files have to be named like this: "M4V00000.MP4", you can change the numbers "00000" to fit your preference (like "M4V00027.MP4"), but the PSP is very picky about the file naming conventions.
