BEFORE YOU READ THIS, I would recommend having the newest Firmware for your PSP because using the Internet on your PSP is a small chance ( .01% chance) that you can get virus that the Sony warranty won’t cover. To find out how to get the latest firmware for your Playstation Portable, click here.
If you just want to learn how to use your PSP’s Internet where an access point (an access point is basically where the wireless router is located) is located, begin reading at the first paragraph.
If you want to learn how to use the internet on your Playstation Portable at you house, please begin reading at the second paragraph.
1st Paragraph:
If you don’t even want to bother using Internet at your home and buying a router, just go to your local coffeeshop or book store where most likely they will have Wi-Fi (wireless internet). Several common places have free wireless internet such as bookstores and coffeshops. Turn on your PSP, go to the Internet browser, and your PSP should detect the hotspot as an access point!
2nd Paragraph:
To get Internet for your PSP, first you need to buy something called a wireless router.
They range from about $30 to $120. If you get the $40 one, the range may be only about 400 feet, but if you get a $120 the range can be thousands of feet and have a bunch of bonus features. If you just want to get internet for your PSP, a cheaper wireless router will be just fine.
Once you buy the wireless router, you will have to install it the included software onto your computer, which should take you no more than 30 minutes. At that point, during the router installation process, you will be asked to create a firewall for your router, so nobody uses your internet and finds personal information about you. The best kind of security is WEP (128-bit) because it is the hardest to encrypt, but just make sure you get some sort of security, or else extremely bad things can occur.
After you have fully installed your wireless router, go to the internet browser on your PSP and your PSP should detect the connection. Then you will have to type in the WEP password and save your settings. Yes, you have to type in the WHOLE password, which i know is a huge pain, but if you type it correctly the first time and save your settings, you won't ever have to do it again. Finally, you can surf the internet as you wish.
Here is a nice little diagram of how everything works:
Is your internet on your PSP still not working? Your internet on your computer must work perfectly for your wireless router to work. In addition, make sure the switch on the left hand side of the PSP (WLAN Switch) is up!
