For those of you who don’t know just yet what Ad Hoc Mode is, it basically allows several nearby PSP’s to communicate with each other.  An example of when you may use Ad Hoc Mode is if you want to play a game against someone else near you with a PSP (Note: For most games, both players both must own a copy of the game UMD for them to play against each other.)

It is always good to set up Ad Hoc Mode in your free time because you never know when you want to send a pic to a friend or race head-to-head in a game such as Burnout: Legends, which is one of the few games that only requires one PSP to have the UMD inside of it.

To set up Ad Hoc Mode on your PSP:

  1. Go to the “Setting” icon from the main menu and go all the way down to “Network Settings” (Looks like a globe).  Press X.
  2. Select “Ad Hoc Mode” from the list and press X.
  3. Choose which channel you would like to use for communication.  Whatever PSP you are communicating with must be set at the exact same channel that you are set on.  I would recommend you choose “Automatic” from the list so no matter what the other PSP’s channel is set on, you will always be on the correct channel. Press X to pick your choice and press X again to save your settings.

Having a little trouble with Ad Hoc Mode?

  • Make sure the WLAN switch on the left side of your PSP is turned on, or is as high as it can go.
  • When you are trying to play an online game in Ad Hoc Mode, ensure that there are at least 2 more PSP’s with the same game located close by.
  • Also, make sure that all the PSP’s are set to the automatic default setting or set to the same channel.
  • There are many things that can meddle with a Wi-Fi signal.  Some examples of items that may cause your wireless connection to go haywire are:

- Cordless phones

-Bluetooth wireless devices (such as cell phones)

-Microwave

-Fluorescent lights

-High powered audio equipment

-Some TVs

-Computer monitors

-Electronic insect "zappers"

-Any other electronic equipment that may produce Radio Frequency (RF) interference
